Variations on the old  greenhouse of Almensilla

Under the initiative to transform Almensilla into a slow city, this project is framed within the renewal and utilization of the old municipal greenhouse, which had been abandoned for over a decade, as a new interpretation center.

The slow city movement advocates for “slowing down” and “decelerating” the fast-paced lifestyle prevalent in contemporary culture. Originating in 1999, its aim is to develop cities based on improving the quality of life of their citizens through proposals linked to the territory, the environment, and new technologies.

In recent years, Almensilla has undertaken various projects to renew and create public spaces, aiming to enhance accessibility, safety, and the town’s image, and to provide new services and activities to the population and visitors. This has led to the creation of a network of public spaces crucial for the quality of life of the town’s inhabitants, promoting tourism and economic activity, and creating a healthier and more appealing environment to live in. The renovation and creation of these spaces should be considered a long-term investment in the well-being and sustainable development of the town.

Following the principles of a Slow City like Almensilla, environmental and infrastructure policies should aim to maintain and develop the unique characteristics of the territory. In this regard, the proposal for the rehabilitation of the old municipal greenhouse aligns with the promotion of sustainability and urban recycling. Thus, the renovation of the old greenhouse of Almensilla as an interpretation center presents a significant opportunity to showcase local history and culture, as well as to educate citizens about the importance of environmental conservation and biodiversity.

THE GREENHOUSE AS A NEW PLACE IN THE LOCAL IMAGINATION

Through the regeneration of this productive landscape, the project aims to transcend the dichotomy between architecture and landscape, transitioning from open public space to the concept of landscape, and creating an Interpretation Center that is both a park and a park that serves as an Interpretation Center.

The renovation of the old greenhouse of Almensilla has been carried out by Lugadero, in close collaboration with the Town Hall and other stakeholders. The main objective of the project has been to transform this space into an interpretation center to raise awareness among the local population and visitors about the importance of conserving natural resources and biodiversity.

Regarding the rehabilitation of the building, it has been essential to address technical aspects to ensure that the interpretation center is safe, accessible, and functional, taking into account visitor needs such as restrooms, parking, and accessibility.

The renovation of the old greenhouse of Almensilla has become a clear example of an urban regeneration project and the valorization of natural and heritage resources, contributing to the promotion of sustainable tourism and environmental awareness.

It represents a significant investment for the local community and for those interested in learning about the history, culture, and ecology of Almensilla and its territory, and it is poised to promote sustainable tourism and environmental conservation in the area.
