Carmen is a polyhedron in which the past, present, and future of Andalusian cinema converge.

The winning proposal for the “Carmen Awards” statuette of the Andalusian Film Academy originates from a design that delves into tradition through the representation of a woman’s body and the myth of Carmen, by Prosper Merimée.

Chosen democratically through voting by the members of the Andalusian Film Academy, the work goes beyond stereotypes and, from a contemporary perspective, displays its multiple facets, previously invisible, which are an indissoluble part of Andalusian identity.

Alongside the strong image created in the collective imagination about the myth of Carmen, a statuette is constructed that represents a more multifaceted Andalusian cinema. Through its design, this award aims to enhance the positive and distinctive values of Andalusian cinema in all its dimensions and promote national and international recognition from a more plural perspective.

Its materialization has been carried out through the 3D printing of the original piece in sintered polyamide (SLS), and from this, a reusable synthetic polymer mold has been created that allows the subsequent reproduction of the rest of the pieces in pigmented mortar.

Both its base and the statuette itself are made of the same cementitious material, connecting to each other through an internal metal rod that provides consolidation for the entire piece. The award’s inscription is laser-engraved on the colored cement base.

This proposal stems from the collaboration between the transdisciplinary office Lugadero and the artist Antonio Barahona, who, for over a decade, have collaborated on projects of various kinds and scales, focusing primarily on architecture and design.
